THORBJØRN RISAGER

& THE BLACK TORNADO

Copenhagen, Denmark

A group of men are standing next to each other in a field.

Headlining this show is another internationally acclaimed PwF alum, TRTBT returns to the site where the band conquered Omaha playing to raving fans in 2019. The in-demand seven-piece powerhouse band was formed in 2014. Over the last twenty years, Risager’s “bigger than life voice” and the team of exceptional musicians have become Denmark's premier roots-rockers, playing 100 gigs annually and performing in 21 countries. The band has released twelve albums, including seven studio albums. They've won two Danish Music Awards (with seven nominations), the "Best Band" in the European Blues Awards, and the winner twice of the prestigious German Record Critics' Awards. Their latest album, Navigation Blues, features rolling rhythm blues romps to southern rocker songs. TRTBT have swept-up fans across every corner, including non-other than Elwood Blues himself, Dan Ackroyd! Who hailed their "Hot rhythm and blues,” saying Risager has "got a great voice, great delivery, and feels the blues. The songs are original, but sound like they come from a Stax recording session circa 1965." Risager’s wisdom of the band, "I think what drives us is the love of playing music. It's also the fact that we're always developing, always moving in the right direction. We're always gaining more and more fans, always conquering new territories. And I guess we're good at having fun together in the band. You need to have some good fun once in a while."

SAMANTHA MARTIN

& DELTA SUGAR

Toronto, Ontario - Canada

A group of people standing next to each other in front of a floral wall.

This premier Canadian gospel-glazed, funky, and ever-so-soulful huge band with a huge sound is fronted by lead vocalist Martin, who has been nominated for 13 Maple Blues Awards to date. The band’s 2018 album, Run to Me, and their latest release, 2020’s The Reckless One, each earned them a Juno Award Blues Album of the Year nomination for their respective years. Martin possesses a stunning, torrid force of a voice that takes audiences to emotional peaks while leaving them floored with her sheer pin-you-against-the-wall power. While Martin is a powerhouse unto herself, the vocal alchemy of Delta Sugar is not the work of a single talent. Ms. Martin likes to term her “co-vocalists,” the vocal blend that Delta Sugar produces is pure, unadulterated gospel-tinged, neuron-tingling magic where the sum is even richer than the already soul-melting parts. Americana Highway praises the band. “Ms. Martin’s raw juke joint voice is the charm – the arrangements & band sparkle.”
